The Joe Carter Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament returns to Toronto this June

Annual celebrity charity event has raised $1.5 million to benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation and other children’s charities

TORONTO, ON – Major League Baseball All-Star and World Series legend Joe Carter will return to Toronto on Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday, June 23 for the Seventh Annual Joe Carter Classic Golf Tournament. To date, the celebrity charity event has raised over $1.5 million to benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation as well as other local children’s charities.

The star-studded fundraiser, hosted at Eagles Nest Golf Club in Maple, Ontario, will include the Joe Carter Classic Celebrity Skins Game on June 22, followed by the charity golf tournament on June 23. The event also features a celebrity-filled VIP after-party on June 23, featuring musical performances by Shaggy, Naughty by Nature and JRDN. Sponsored by Biion Footwear and Strellson, the after-party will be hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel.

This year’s all-star lineup will include Hollywood royalty such as Anthony Anderson, Chris Tucker and George Lopez, baseball stars Bret Saberhagen, Cito Gaston, Barry Larkin and Tim Raines, hockey greats Doug Gilmour and Paul Henderson, and NFL legend Dan Marino.

“I’m thrilled that we are able to continue to positively impact the lives of so many children through programs that help them grow and develop into well-rounded adults,” said Joe Carter, event co-chair. “It is important that children have access to outlets that not only teach but foster a sense of community.”

“We are so thankful to all the celebrities who donate their time to help us raise money and awareness for these important causes,” said James Dodds, TD Bank Group vice president and event co-chair.

The main event on June 23 includes a full day of golf, a gourmet dinner and awards ceremony, as well as a prestigious live auction. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Children’s Aid Foundation’s Joe Carter Family Support Fund and the Joe Carter Scholarship Endowment Fund along with other local charities.

“We are so grateful for the support of the participants and sponsors of the Joe Carter Classic whose efforts continue to assist Toronto’s must vulnerable children in need,” says Valerie McMurtry, president and CEO of the Children’s Aid Foundation. “The proceeds raised from this annual event have created a legacy of support that will enable youth leaving care to pursue post-secondary education and will also strengthen at-risk youth and families, helping them break the cycle of abuse and neglect.”

Presenting sponsors for the tournament are BlackBerry, TD Bank Group – the Official Bank of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Canada Goose. Supporting sponsors include: SDI Marketing, CIBC, RBC, Lug, Nike Golf, Toronto Star, Air Canada, Mi5 Print & Digital and Facebook. More details on returning sponsors will be announced in the coming weeks.
