TORONTO, ON – For the sixth consecutive year, Major League Baseball All-Star and World Series hero, Joe Carter is set to return to Toronto on Tuesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 10 with more than 40 celebrity friends for his annual golf tournament at Eagles Nest Golf Club. The event will expand to two days to include the Joe Carter Classic Celebrity Skins Game on June 9, followed the next day by the charity golf tournament and VIP after party. To date, the Joe Carter Classic has raised $1.2 million for the Children’s Aid Foundation and other local children’s charities.
“I’m thrilled that we’ve reached the over one million dollars milestone and have been able to change the lives of so many children by supporting them through programs that nurture them into healthy adults,” said Mr. Carter, event co-chair.“Growing up my parents encouraged me to play sports, and it was in our family backyard when I first dreamed of batting a World Series win. What I learned as a young child stayed with me and I want local kids to feel inspired and open to possibilities, just as I was.”
“The success of last year’s Celebrity Skins Game has inspired us to bring it back this year, in an effort to expand our fundraising capabilities and access to our celebrity golfers.” announced James Dodds, TD Bank Group vice president and event co-chair. “Celebrity-lead foursomes will compete for more than $25,000 in cash prizes with winners having the option to donate their prize money to the Children’s Aid Foundation or a charity of their choice.”
This year’s star line-up will include many new and returning celebrity golfers, such as Toronto Maple Leafs hockey legends Doug Gilmour, Mike Palmateer, and Wendel Clark, Hall of Famers Grant Fuhr and Moses Malone, and baseball superstars Devon White and Dave Stewart.
“We are thankful for the ongoing generosity of the Joe Carter Classic participants and sponsors to support vulnerable children who need their help,” says Valerie McMurty, president and CEO of the Children’s Aid Foundation. “The funds raised annually from this event continue to transform the lives of at-risk youth and their families, and provide the vital opportunity of post-secondary education for young people who have demonstrated tremendous resilience in the face of adversity.”
The two-day Joe Carter Classic is held at the Eagles Nest Golf Club in Maple, Ontario, the 2012 top rated public golf course in the GTA by SCOREGolf magazine. The formal charity tournament on June 10 includes a day of golf, dinner and a live auction. The event continues that evening at the Shangri-La Hotel in downtown Toronto with a celebrity-filled VIP after party.
Presenting sponsors for the tournament are TD Bank Group, the Official Bank of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Canada Goose. Supporting sponsors include: Air Canada, Charton Hobbs, J.F. Moore Communications, Labatt, SDI Marketing, the Toronto Star and Xerox. More details on returning sponsors will be announced in the coming weeks.
